But later found.....why?
The hotel had shuttle service, the meetings I was at were a 5 minute walk away. the downtown has some great spots to see and enjoy, like phoenix center. My last day in phoenix I drove out to the superstition mountains, other than that beautiful area, a person could just enjoy the beauty of phoenix without a car. A clean, well laid center, and delightful people.Briannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1737980321158585254.post-23277980228365586682011-10-29T02:25:15.151-04:002011-10-29T02:25:15.151-04:00Personally, coming from my cultural and national b...Personally, coming from my cultural and national background, I find it difficult to wrap my brain around understanding why someone would feel the need to always carry a concealed weapon in today's society.Phoebe Bartonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10457452561340581723noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1737980321158585254.post-74745526963623013482011-10-28T02:10:09.607-04:002011-10-28T02:10:09.607-04:00I love love Tempe, i hope to live there soon, espe...I love love Tempe, i hope to live there soon, especially near Mill ave, and i plan on carrying, everywhere i go i go CCW, that includes the lightrail, tempe is a nice city, but not nice people visit there too.Tinonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1737980321158585254.post-37388836823846665772011-10-20T12:19:10.535-04:002011-10-20T12:19:10.535-04:00Phoenix, Arizona is one of the most beautiful plac...Phoenix, Arizona is one of the most beautiful places in the world, I would like to buy a house there!xl pharmacyhttp://www.xlpharmacydeals.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1737980321158585254.post-74856327278584169422011-09-12T22:20:27.254-04:002011-09-12T22:20:27.254-04:00Metro Rail/Bus in Arizona cannot ban firearms on t...Metro Rail/Bus in Arizona cannot ban firearms on their system. Personally, I don't have that kind of breadth of transit experience; though I have been hearing bits and pieces about Cincinnati putting in a streetcar, and that's something I'd like to see happen. It would give me more of a reason to visit Cincinnati!

As for Boston, yeah, that's one of the nice transit-heavy places. I was born and raised in Phoenix, but had the fortunate experience of being able to move far far away from that transit nightmare right around the time construction started. Phoenicians have had a long history of NOT supporting the mass transit options so I assumed a light rail, although cool, would undoubtedly fail due to Phoenicians love of cars and sitting in traffic all day. Since leaving Phoenix, I have lived in Mpls and used their relatively new light rail many times and loved it. I lived in Cininnati, which has an uneventful transit system but luckily I worked a mile from my home and there isn't anything fun to do in Ohio anyway so who needs a train to take you to nowhere. I also lived in Florida for awhile, just south of Tampa Bay in Sarasota. I could see where a coastal light rail would be good for Florida since the entire coastline is dotted with communities and cities, but alas, the current bus system in Sarasota is horrible, again, probably thanks to the high number of car owners(I, for one cannot wait for the oil to run out in this world so light rail can take over as a more efficient, cleaner, safer way that EVERYBODY travels). I now reside in Boston, MA, where there are subways, commuter trains, light rail, and buses galore. Its a commuters paradise hear on the east coast!Leni Valensnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1737980321158585254.post-82168696461119250722011-02-24T01:37:04.960-05:002011-02-24T01:37:04.960-05:00Thanks for the badge of accuracy! I appreciate your expansion on the trip generators - my schedule didn't leave me much time to go far beyond the line except for Mill Avenue, Papago Park and the State Capitol complex, and I figured I'd rather be correct with few examples than overreach.

Good to get that info on the fare enforcement. I swear, I couldn't find it anywhere! I suspected the county sheriff's office only because I know that's the way it's done for the Los Angeles Metro - or at least, it was the last time I was there.Phoebe Bartonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10457452561340581723noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1737980321158585254.post-86670885806070394862011-02-23T16:52:44.603-05:002011-02-23T16:52:44.603-05:00Thanks for posting such a thorough and accurate as...Thanks for posting such a thorough and accurate assessment of the Phoenix Metro Area's light rail line. You state that "I'll have to leave it to interested Phoenicians to weigh in on that aspect [destinations served by light rail]."

You mentioned the following: “US Airways Center and Chase Field, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, and Mill Avenue and the Arizona State University campus in downtown Tempe.” Those are all correct, but there are several more, including ASU’s much larger campus in Tempe, Gateway Community College, The Phoenix Art Museum, the Heard Museum, several theaters, major parks that are homes to large festivals, and key historic neighborhoods in Midtown Phoenix. As far as supermarkets are concerned, there are half a dozen I can think of within a quarter mile walk of rail stations. Combine these destinations, along with popular bars and restaurants along the route, and it’s easy to see why light rail in Phoenix has exceeded ridership forecasts by a generous margin. Transit-oriented development is also occurring, particularly along Apache Boulevard in Tempe, although its pace has been slowed by the real estate collapse.

As for fare enforcement, that is handled by the three participating cities rather than the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. In Phoenix city limits, police assistants, sometimes accompanied by a full-fledged police officer, perform the fare checks. In Tempe and Mesa, a private security firm handles fare inspections under a contract with those cities.David Bickfordhttp://www.phxrailfood.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1737980321158585254.post-28592354814759248242011-02-18T12:03:13.796-05:002011-02-18T12:03:13.796-05:00Ah, got it. It's not as if that's not the case.

The most direct reason, though, is that according to the terms of the driver's license I currently hold (Ontario G1, if you're curious), I am not legally permitted to operate a motor vehicle unless another licensed driver with at least four years' full-licensed experience is in the front passenger seat.Phoebe Bartonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10457452561340581723noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1737980321158585254.post-44676784652018961092011-02-17T17:52:44.281-05:002011-02-17T17:52:44.281-05:00I'm curious: why did you visit Phoenix and not...I'm curious: why did you visit Phoenix and not rent a car? This seems a bit like going to Paris and deliberately paralyzing your left leg. I don't understand --- even if you wanted to see the rail system, you can't get any sense of the city at all without an automobile. So why try?Noel Maurerhttp://noelmaurer.typepad.com/noreply@blogger.com
