When it comes to deflating the popular perception of Toronto as an uptight, straight-laced, generally grey burg, Mayor Rob Ford is the gift that keeps on giving. The news about what happened last night has already started filtering out across the media - the Vancouver Sun describes it as a "rampage" - but the short of it is that Mayor Ford was made aware of a Toronto Star reporter looking into some city-owned land backing onto the mayor's property that the mayor has expressed interest in buying to build a more effective security fence, and it ended up with Ford charging the reporter with a cocked fist.
I took this photo of City Hall back in September; I don't know if Rob Ford's office is visible from this vantage point, but it seems to me that it wouldn't be entirely out of character for an angry mayor to charge across the pool if it was.
