Bay Street is the anchor of downtown Toronto's financial district, Wall Street's Canadian counterpart, and a center of employment for tens of thousands of people at least. It also provides direct pedestrian access to Union Station, the hub of GO Transit's commuter rail network, and no small number of those tens of thousands live in surrounding communities. That being the case, then, once the clock strikes past 5, the sidewalks of Bay Street come alive with office workers pouring out of their towers and heading south. What's in the photograph is actually rather light traffic for the time of day. It's even more awe-inspiring in the morning, a few minutes before 9.
Also, take note: this post is best accompanied by Semisonic's "Closing Time" in MIDI. Not CD or MP3; the MIDI format is one that will never die.
